Careers in IT

WEBMASTER ; A webmaster ( portmanteau of web and postmaster ) , also called a web architect , web developer , site author , website administrator , or informally known as webmeister , is a person responsible for maintaining and controlling a website( s ) . The duties of the webmaster may include ensuring that the web servers , hardware and software are operating accurately , designing the website , generating and revising web pages , replying to user comment , and examining traffic through the site to ensure the smoothness of exploring the internet .

COMPUTER SUPPORT SPECIALIST ; A computer support specialist provides technical assistance , support , and advice to customers . This occupational group includes technical support specialists and help-desk technicians . These troubleshooters interpret problems and provide technical support for hardware , software , and systems . They answer telephone calls , analyze problems by using automated diagnostic programs , and resolve recurring difficulties . Support specialists work either within a company that uses computer systems or directly for a computer hardware or software vendor . Increasingly , these specialists work for help-desk or support services firms, for which they provide computer support to clients on a contract basis .


TECHNICAL WRITER ; A technical writer or famously known as a technical communicator designs , writes , edits , and produces documents for scientific , technical , industrial , and government organizations . These documents can include technical reports , specifications , reference manuals , operating instructions , policies and procedures , proposals , presentations , brochures , and Web pages .


SOFTWARE ENGINEER ; A software engineer is a person who designs and programs system-level software, such as operating systems, database management systems (DBMSs) and embedded systems . The title is often used for programmers in the software industry who create commercial software packages , whether they be system level or application level. "Software engineer , "systems programmer" and "systems engineer" titles are often synonymous .


NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR ; A network administrator is a modern profession responsible for the maintenance of computer hardware and software that comprises a computer network . This normally includes the deployment, configuration, maintenance and monitoring of active network equipment . A related role is that of the network specialist , or network analyst , who concentrates on network design and security.
The Network Administrator is usually the highest level of technical /network staff in an organization and will rarely be involved with direct user support . The Network Administrator will concentrate on the overall health of the network , server deployment , security , and ensuring that the network connectivity throughout a company's LAN / WAN infrastructure is on par with technical considerations at the network level of an organization's hierarchy . Network Administrators are considered Tier 3 support personnel that only work on break / fix issues that could not be resolved at the Tier1 ( helpdesk ) or Tier 2 ( desktop / network technician ) levels .


DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR ; A database administrator is a person who is responsible for the environmental aspects of a database . The role of a database administrator has changed according to the technology of database management systems (DBMSs) as well as the needs of the owners of the databases . For example , although logical and physical database design are traditionally the duties of a database analyst or database designer , a DBA may be tasked to perform those duties .


SYSTEM ANALYST ; A system anlyst is the person responsible for the development of an information system. Systems analysts design and modify systems by turning user requirements into a set of functional specifications , which are the blueprint of the system . They design the database or help design it if data administrators are available . They develop the manual and machine procedures and the detailed processing specifications for each data entry , update , query and report program in the system .


PROGRAMMER ; A person who designs the logic for and writes the lines of codes of a computer program . Programming is the heart and soul of developing computer applications , and programmers are the most misunderstood people in the business . They are constantly being criticized for taking longer to write a program than they initially estimated .
